The Forgotten Step | Bio-Essence Tanaka White Double Whitening Clarifying Softener

I should have included this in my skincare routine post [here] but I did not. Just as I've written in the title, the forgotten step.

Since I have been diligent with my skincare routine for about a month now, I finally finished this bottle few days ago. Phewh! I wrote a date at the bottom of the bottle, and found out I purchased it about a year ago. That's been too long. It's an on-off thing throughout the year I owned it mainly because I don't like to use toner. I feel like it's not making any difference but it makes my skin even more dry. So I don't see the point of using it.

But I've been really good in using toner after I found out other purposes of toner (obviously after reading Caroline Hirons blog, yes I listen to my guru). She mentioned that we need to have and exfoliating or acid toner and a hydrating toner. I'm so glad I've finally managed to finish this bottle. I haven't been using any toner since this finished and I feel like my skin is not doing so well. I'm still waiting for my toners that I've ordered few weeks ago to arrive. They should be here already! It doesn't take more than two weeks fpr shipping from UK normally. Sighs!!

Will I repurchase? No. I've few more in my list that I want to try but this is a better option as it does not contain alcohol. It will not dry your skin.

Better Cleanser | Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Facial Wash Gel

As soon as I found out that foam cleanser is a no-no from Caroline Hirons (yes she is my skincare guru now), I went to Guardian to find a gel cleanser. I'm not sure about oil and milk type of cleanser, so I decided on gel instead. This cleanser does not contain any colour, fragrance - which I prefer, SLS and is soap free. Basic cleanser with no nasties. I have been using this cleanser for a month now. The texture is light and not runny. I take a dollop and rub it between my fingers then massage it on to my dry face. It does not sting my eyes but it does makes my skin feel a little tight in my earlier usage (like all cleansers that I've tried) if I don't use my toner straight away. It removes all my make up traces plus I now use a washcloth to wipe my face clean. Another cleansing method I've learned recently.

This is what Paula's choice said about this cleanser,

"This is an exceptionally basic, yet very gentle, water-soluble cleanser best for normal to dry skin that’s also sensitive. The fragrance-free formula rinses cleanly but its cleansing agent is so mild that this isn’t the best option for removing makeup or excess oil. Consider it an option if you wear minimal makeup (or are willing to use a separate makeup remover, especially for mascara) or for use as your morning cleanser. Note: the U.S. name for this cleanser is Refreshing Facial Wash Gel."

Will I repurchase? Yes but not soon. I think I'll buy this when my skin does not know what to do with itself.

Desert Island Foundation | Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation

I knew about the existence of this foundation from one of Lisa Eldridge's video. Then I saw it from Pixiwoo foundation related videos and they mentioned that it is a good dupe for Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation that I have been wanting to try! So when my best friend went to UK last two years Christmas, I just had to ask her to help buy it for me.

When I first tried this foundation about over a year ago, it was LOVE. SUPER LOVE. Ever since, I only use this foundation for those special days. And events. This foundation gives a very natural look, look even better after hours wearing it. I don't need concealer to cover redness around my nose area, and if I do, it'd be just to cover blemishes. It IS that good! I want to keep it for as long as I could but we all know, for hygienic purposes that is not possible.

Shade: 53, Light Beige/ Beige Clair (slightly darker on me, has yellow undertone)
Texture: Light and runny
Fragrance: Subtle hint of fruity scents - from the ingredients used
Finish: Semi-dewy, looks natural on my dry skin
Coverage: Light to medium
Longevity: Last for over 8 hours - I sometimes used it to work, keep my t-zone looking matte for the first few hours, then my t-zone started to look shiny (blot!!).

However I could not find this foundation on ASOS and Boots anymore, although they still have it in their website. I would love to try this in lighter shade, 52 Vanilla. Having tried this foundation, makes me want to get the Chanel foundation even more. Finding the right shade online would be tricky although I may have found out which shade will suit me based on the gazillion reviews I have read.

Since I'm saving this foundation, I recently bought the reformulated Bourjois Healthy Mix Radiance Revealed foundation in shade 52 Vanilla and Bourjois Happy Light Illuminating Primer from ASOS. I have not tried the original formula but I'm always intrigued to find out. From the reviews I read, there are mixed reviews with the new formulation. But that didn't stop me to purchase it. Oh well. ;)

Skincare Wishlist | Omorovicza and Sarah Chapman

Since I'm such a skincare obsess now, I want to share with you my skincare wishlist. These two brands are definitely among the higher ends especially in the UK.

Omorovicza Introductory Kit £58

This is a perfect kit to learn about the brand products. According to the website, Omorovicza products are powered by a potent blend of Hungary’s mineral-rich healing waters and our patented Hydro Mineral Transference™ delivery system. This is combined with the finest vitamins, essential oils and other natural ingredients from across the globe, from the bed of Lake Heviz to the peak of the Andes mountains. Their products exclude parabens, polyethylene glycol, petrochemicals, silicones, sodium laureth sulfates, synthetic colours and fragrances which is always a plus. I'd say this kit is almost complete to try out their cult and best selling products. Included in the kit - cleansing foam, thermal cleansing balm, deep cleansing mask, queen of hungary mist and illuminating moisturiser. I have few products that I might buy in full size but I'm going to try them first to see if they are superior than what I have used.

Sarah Chapman Ultimate Cleanser, Facial Overnight and Intense Hydrating Booster £40, £45 and £57 resp

This brand caught my attention as Sarah Chapman is a beauty specialist and skincare expert And London’s most sought-after facialist. I mean she must know everything to do with skin to be able to create her own skincare line, right? You can check the review [here] from my favourite beauty blogger! Anna. I do find her range to be very expensive! I'm gna have to think more than twice but if I have to choose just one product (ok, this is hardddd! Ermm...) Intense Hydrating booster. I wanted to choose Facial Overnight but for the price £45 for 15ml, so the serum win at £57 for 30ml. I don't mind spending a lot on skincare but I must ensure that they benefits my skin. I mean, who doesn't want that?

Haul | Christmas Holiday 2013 Collection

CHANEL OMBRES MATELASSEES CHARMING EYESHADOW PALETTE

Perfect neutral palette. It does not have a lot of shades which somehow a newbie like me prefer since I can't match colours in the bigger palette. *wails* As much as I love bigger palettes, it hardly get any used from me. They are really pretty to look at especially the Urban Decay naked palettes. (They have the third one out already and I haven't buy any yet!). Anyway, the pigmentation is great too. From what I read, Chanel eyeshadow is not as good as the Dior ones (I need to get their neutral quads soon!) but this is a better version now.

CHANEL POWDER BLUSH IN No.84 ACCENT

While I was looking for reviews for Charming eyeshadow palette, I saw this blush and thought it was a perfect combination. Although I'm a little disappointed with the blush when I have it as it actually has gold shimmer in it. It's good that you don't need to use a highlighter anymore, but the fine shimmer goes everywhere on your face when you applying it. That's my only gripe about this blush, the colour and pigmentation is pretty nonetheless.

LAURA MERCIER COLOUR-TO-GO PORTABLE PALETTE IN NATURAL NUDES

I love this palette. As the name suggest, it is very portable and will be very handy for travel. At first, I wanted to get the NARS version of this from the Guy Bourdoin collection. However, packaging wise and price, I chose LM palette instead. I super love the blush and bronzer in this palette, looks natural. Even though this peachy pink blush has gold shimmer in it but it does not translate onto my cheeks like the Chanel one. I can't say much on the bronzer as I'm not really fond of using it. Oh and the lip gloss, it's a little bit sticky when freshly applied.

LAURA MERCIER SHIMMER EFFECTS MINI CAVIAR STICK EYE COLOUR COLLECTION

I just got this recently and have not use them. This collection includes Pink Opal, Amethyst (LOVE THIS!!!), Rose Gold and Sugar Frost. Out of the four shades, I love Amethyst the most as it's almost similar to Maybelline Bad to the Bronze. The others are lighter and a little frosty for my liking but I think I would be nice as a inner corner highlighter. When I swatched the shades, it lasts long although after 6th hour mark, the colour started to fade a little. I can't wait to use this! And I'm definitely buying more of the darker colour ones. ;) Oh! This one is definitely better than NYX, as they always crease on me even with eye primer on. *annoyed*

YSL ROUGE VOLUPTE SHINE IN No.9 NUDE IN PRIVATE

I love lipstick. Sheer ones though. I was actually torn between this and Pink in Paris (which I might buy next). This lipstick has a bubblegum smell and colour payoff is also great but, it accentuates my dry lips. This is very similar to my Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy. I just need to scrub my dry lips before I use these lipsticks - it's good that it reminds me to take care of my lips better but not so much when I'm in a hurry and this is the only lipstick I have in my bag. Lol!

As you can see, everything that I bought are nudes and neutrals. I mean, who can have enough nudes and neutrals in their collection right? I've seen bloggers posting Spring 2014 collection already, a lot of pinks I must say but nothing really caught my eyes just yet although the lipstick ranges are quite tempting actually! I think I have a thing for Winter collection, I'll just wait for that. For the time being, I'm going to make full use of these lovely babies I just got. :D

Haul | FeelUnique Sale

I can't remember how and when I found out about this site. But I have always tempted to buy stuffs from them. Luckily I waited for Christmas Day to finally place an order because they gave Luxury beauty free gifts which I'm really excited about! It includes Benefit They're Real Mascara (in my Benefit wish list), Eve Lom TLC cream, Bare Minerals Big & Bright eyeliner in Espresso and Antiac Purity Clear face wash.

I bought Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant (apparently we have Elizabeth Arden at Hua Ho Yayasan), Burt's Bees Baby Bee Sweet Memories gift sets for my daughter Amni and niece Sofea, BrushSoClean Conditioning Brush Cleanser for my makeup brushes obviously, and Real Techniques Sam's Pick collection which unfortunately sold out. They emailed me about it and they kindly refunded the amount. I was looking forward to try their most-praised Buffing brush. Bummer!

I experienced something rather new with our postal service. Maybe because I haven't order anything skincare related before. The notification notes from Post Office came last Saturday and I asked for Dear Husband to take it for me while I had my driving lesson. Unfortunately, they did not release my items right away although we had to pay for tax. "Waiting for Pharmacy" to check the ingredients on items that I bought. Apparently there's a strict regulation on skincare.

On a happier note (at least for me :P), I have few more items I want to buy from this site but all are currently out of stock. So I'm going to wait for their next sale ;D

Haul | Sofina 2.1

"DO MORE OF WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY"
I finally get my hands on Vivy's inspired bag, the Sofina. I have been reading her blog for years now, before Fashion Valet even exist. That's about more than 2 years already I think. I missed my chance on their first Sofina which I prefer because it does not have the studs. Not really a studs fan but the colour caught my attention. I also bought a black plain top and a notebook. Delivery was fast as usual from the reliable DHL people. Not going to buy more unless they are going to produce the non-studded ones and maybe, a shoulder bag version of it. I don't mind the handheld/ arm-held? but having babies now, I much prefer a shoulder bag so the additional sling is really nice to have.

Don't forget to check their website tomorrow if you missed you chance to get it last time.

Skincare Matter

I mentioned before that I want to add new products to my skincare routine. I meant it and I researched for it which led me to Caroline Hirons. She's a skincare expert and also, beauty blogger. And apparently, my favourite beauty bloggers (I only started reading their blogs few months ago) are also avid readers of Caroline Hirons's blog. Ok, in short I am a skincare obsess at the moment.

According to Caroline Hirons, this is what our skincare routine should be like;
  1. Cleanse your face with a good non-foaming cleanser (oil/balm/gel - no mineral oil and no fairy liquid).
  2. Exfoliate with an acidic toner.
  3. Spray hydrate.
  4. Apply a light water-based serum to target specific skin conditions (ageing, pigmentation, scarring/dehydration etc) if that is a concern.
  5. Apply either a moisturiser (am) or a facial oil (pm) designed for your skin type.
(points taken directly from Caroline Hirons's blog here).

So for the past weeks I have been reading her blog. Going through all my favourite bloggers' blogs and read all their skincare related posts. Understanding my skin and paying more attention to it. Researching for reviews for recommended products. Shopping the products. And now, waiting patiently for them to arrive. Even worst, I'm looking for alternatives as well. *skincare obsess alert*

Anyway, so the first thing I did to revamp my skincare routine was to change my cleanser to a gel type. The only cleanser I could find in Guardian that is purely a gel type is from Simple. And for the last two weeks, my skin is looking much better. Yay!! :D

2014 The Year of Self Improvement

I had a great New Year celebration with my family yesterday. We spent our day mostly at home - doing the never-ending house chores :P and later in the afternoon, we went to Mangrove Paradise 'resort'. I'm really happy seeing Iqbal enjoying himself in the pool. Of course, daddy was there too and his uncles and aunties. His first swim was on Christmas Day and since then, he's been wanting to have another swimming sesh. We bought him a swimming suit recently hence the excitement. ;) Baby Amni had her afternoon nap when we were there. Very laid back that girl!

I have been trying to think of new resolutions for this year. Is it better to have a monthly resolution or weekly, or daily even (this is too much already!)? Last year's resolutions was not even close to half being a success. -__- So this year, the ones I could think of on top of my head this morning was,
1. to get a driving license (finally!!! at the age of 27!!!)
2. to improve myself at work - Alhamdulillah I finally got a job early last year but I don't think I've done a good job at it. Being a leader and to manage a group of people was not in my expectation. I don't think I can lead. So this year, I'll do my best to lead and do my work. Although seeing the current situation now, I'd prefer to be a SAHM having an active 2yo toddler and 2mo baby and no maid, gives me a hard time leaving them. *wails* *poor Dad*
3. to take care of my skin better. No more neglecting my routine. "You only have one face, why mess with it" - Caroline Hirons. Hmmpfh!
*just thought of another one*
4. to become a better Muslimah. After all, we only have one life so why care the worldly matters so much. #notetoself :(

Do you have any new resolutions? Is it a yearly kinda-thing or on monthly or weekly basis? Oh how was your last year's resolutions, a success? Share with me maybe I can add them to my monthly resolutions. :) Have an exciting and wonderful year everyone!!!
