One month old

Baby Iqbal turned one month last Monday. I must say, it has been a memorable learning experience for us all. We smile everytime we see him. Baby gives us more happiness and also, to my family (we have not go back to my in-laws’ place as husband wants me to finish my confinement period first but I feel good already. I’ll try to convince him again to go this weekend).
For his one month, we opened a bank account for him. Thank you uncles and aunties, grandma and friends for the sedekah :D We also bought him few going out baju (one size up!) Baby can wears 0-3mths clothings now and he still wears newbaby size from MC (well, until he outgrew them at least).
We also went to the clinic yesterday, Wednesday 21st Dec for his one-month review. Alhamdulillah everything is great.. Baby weights 4.275kgs now and 54.2cm height. He also had Hepatitis B jab. The part where the nurse put in the needle made him cried so hard, then after we comfort him he stopped crying. Hehe.. such a strong and good baby! :D

Baby Iqbal's Birth Story

It has been almost a month since Baby Iqbal arrival. It’s time to write about his birth story before I forget (not sure how am I going to forget that experience! *winks*)
My EDD was 22nd Nov 2011 and the real delivery happened on the 19th Nov (though most people ‘wanted’ me to gave birth on the 20th haha mission denied!).
19th Nov – After Midnight
… I kept going to the washroom. I thought I was having my normal toilet hugging session (had it since the past couple of weeks). Towards the morning, I realised that I had been going to the washroom more frequently than usual and the amount seems to increase. I thought to myself, maybe I drank too much yesterday. I didn’t get much sleep and decided to wake up around 5+am. I accidentally peed on the bed and when we opened the light, we saw mixture of  liquid and blood. Husband went “your water broke!” and I replied, no it’s not. I was imagining a lot of water on the floor like what you’d normally see in the movie. Lol!
I went downstairs and asked my mom, how water broke actually happens? I told her that I’ve been going to the washroom and I saw the liquid and blood. She said, it’s not time yet. Since your baby is a boy, it’s expected to see blood in your pee. =_=’ Then, I had my breakfast and shower. My dad was worried already. Iman took the day off to company me at home. Then, my mom called from the hospital and told me to go to the labour room. “What?!! Today?!!”
Husband was so worried, eager, excited hehe mixed feelings! I was too but more to being scared of the delivery pain though. *sighs* I walked all the way from the parking space to the labour room with Husband and felt fine. When we arrived ataround 11am, the nurse did VE and I was only 3cm dilated. Then, they checked my BP and it was very high. They gave me med and told them that I was scared. Being really honest there! Huhu
They checked me in to the labour room (still scared) and they gave me the “sleepy jab” (I’m not sure what they called it) to quickens my dilation. At 5.15pm, I was already fully dilated. They did few VE before hand and wanted to break my water but they could not do so as they already felt Baby’s hair. I told them that maybe my water has broke because I went to the washroom many times since after midnight =_=’ and yes, my water had broke earlier! Oh! The contractions was very strong after I was fully dilated. :’(
After countless of pushing (because I have a very short breath), it took about 2 hours to finally deliver Baby Iqbal. It’s that long! Husband was beside me til the last 30mins when the midwives told him to go out :( but mama was still in there with me. Baby finally arrives at 7.33pm. When they put Baby on top of me after that final push (that actually went black and blank), I felt really relieved and grateful that Baby’s finally here. =’) Alhamdulillah..
I am really thankful that all my family was outside waiting for me and the arrival of Baby Iqbal. My MIL was at the Hospital from the morning (she was actually there to take Nini Boy’s medicine with FIL). My siblings and in-laws, my aunts and uncles and my bestfriends was all there. I felt really blessed and thankful. After the delivery, one by one they came to the labour room to visit me. It really made me teary and very happy. :D
As a first time mom, I’m still learning just about everything. Sacrificing sleep and all but everything is well with everyone’s help. We are very happy beyond words can describe with Baby Iqbal’s around. I really love my son! Yes, I have a son. We have a son. :D

  • Baby Iqbal was 1 week old last Saturday.
  • Baby and I was admitted at the hospital for two nights.
  • My blood pressure (BP) sky-rocketed since labour (from 160/100 to 130/80 today).
  • We have been receiving visitors from our relatives too (and more gifts too for Baby Iq).
  • My confinement period is going well, Alhamdulillah. (will write a more detail post on this later on)
  • Still adjusting our time especially when Baby Iq is more active during the night than the day. Zombie parents we are for the first few days! Hehe
  • Had difficulties nursing Baby Iq for the first few days but now, I’m able to fully BF him. Alhamdulillah :D
Need to go now. It’s time to nurse Baby Iq again! :D

Bamboolite Giveaway

After months of researching and reading, I have decided to add BambooLite cloth diapers to our CD stash. From CD moms in Brunei to Malaysia and Singapore, I read only good reviews on their CDs. Even more, I love their bold solid colours – red, black and dark purple although Husband hesitantly agree with my choice of colours (except red hehe). Even better, they have weekly giveaway and I thought I could not join because I don’t live in Malaysia and today I found out that I can!!! Woot woot~ This makes me even more excited!!! Who doesn’t love giveaways, right? ;)
Here are their available prints and colours. Pretty isn’t it? Do check out their value packs – they have starter pack btw if you want to give it a trial. Smart huh? Oh! They have the famous Rockin’ Green detergent too which is highly recommended CD detergent. I have yet to order these fluffs. Will definitely do after I give birth to our new bundle of joy, Insya Allah. :D
You can click [here] if you want join their giveaway. :D

Final Preparation (Newborn Cloth Diapering)

Although Iman initially did not understand the reasons why we have to cloth diaper our newborn with flat diapers, I am grateful that my parents are on board with me on this matter. Hehe boo! :P He’s getting the hang of it now.. very involved with the preparations. ♥
When I was a newborn baby, I had an awful relationship with disposable diapers. They gave me a very bad diaper rash and I was such a pain to my parents to handle. Huhu.. Since then, my parents have been using flat diapers to all of my siblings (while on the other hand, Iman came from a disposable diapers family).
But, we have discussed and tolerate to use disposable diapers for night diapering as Baby will be sleeping with us. This will also reduce the amount of laundry although I’d still expect Baby’s nappies will need to be change a lot during the day (and night).
I read this article [here] and the comments about a week ago and I hope (and believe) that we are ready to cloth diaper our newborn even if only for part-time. Nevertheless, it is definitely a good start to our cloth diapering journey! :D
two dozens of flat diapers!!! hehehe
Iman kindly helped me fold the diapers and they're ready with liners :D ♥ (shown in the pic BBH nappy cover, not very clear though)
Here is my stash list to cloth diaper our newborn:
  • Diaper covers – we currently have 2 BBH covers in NB size (Thanks to Rozi for the white cover :D ), and still waiting my fluffy mail for Weehuggers size1 andBummis Super Brite small size.
  • Flat diapers – bought a dozen from Anakku and another dozen from my parents treasure hehe
  • Safety pins (5 pcs) and Nappy fastener (2pcs)
  • Wet pail
  • Detergent :p
  • Stay-dry liner from Autumnz – 2 boxes
__________________________________________
Why did I buy the Baby Beehind (BBH) nappy covers?
I will not deny it was actually because of the price. Since Baby will not wear the nappy cover for a longer period, I thought it would be wise to just buy the newborn covers (can fit up to 5kgs). Afterall, most of the one size modern CDs can fit baby from 3-4kgs and above. Second, I fall in love with their Metropolitan limited edition prints. It’s in blue! (If we are having a girl, would definitely buy the other print too – Retro Gala as it’s in pink and purple!!! Hehe, ok stop :p)
Why did I buy Weehuggers and Bummis Super Brite?
I can say I want these because of their prints and to feed my CD addictions :p Then again, Baby might still going to wear the flat diapers when we (or my parents are at home especially on Friday and Sunday). Baby might outgrew the newborn sizes after 1-2 months, at least we have more covers which can last a little bit longer, say 3-4 months (I hope!). Plus, their reviews are really convincing! [Please read hereand the other related links for more convincing). Love their built-in leg gussets and can be use from newborn too. Yay! :p I’m thinking of getting Thirties cover too (see! it’s addictive but I’m going to wait til we’re bestfriend with the whole idea of cloth diapering) ;)

Week 38 - review

This week review was rather short and brief too. This time, I was checked by a Malay doctor who is super nice (I like!!!). I miss my usual Filipino doctor though hehhe.. She’s very nice and kind too.
Everything else is normal. Alhamdulillah.. Oh! I gained another 1kg from last week review. Hahaha this is not a good sign. I don’t know why but I have quite a huge appetite lately. Hehhe.. Whenever Iman’s crave for something, I’ll just join him and eat more than him. How is that??? Hihihi
Baby’s heartbeat is doing great. Alhamdulillah.. I guess Baby’s weight pun increased a little bit since I’ve gained too. My tummy has been ‘mengeras’ (as my Filipino doctor would called it) lately. I don’t have the symptoms yet but been having an awfully looking swollen feet. Usual midnight movements are getting intense (and it hurts me sometimes), I hardly can sleep. In the day, Baby will usually stays quiet and movements are bearable (and cute!).
I’ll write again soon! :D Enjoy your Sunday lovelies!

  • Going home baju
  • Breasts pad
  • Maternity pad (or period pad, whichever you prefer)
  • Nursing bra and panties
  • Socks
  • Slipper

  • Al-Quran/ Buku Yaasin
Our Baby’s Box
  • Sleepsuits 2-3 pcs (and going home baju)

That’s all that we have packed. I thought of bringing the breastpumps too but we will try direct feed first (and if it doesn’t work which I do not hope for this to happen), then we will use the breastpumps.
We have put all Baby clothes and needs in the drawers and I kept on re-arranging them (and being dreamy at times). Excited much? Hehe.. I have line dry Baby’s pillows, bolsters and mattress too to get rid of the smell. I have washed the covers too. Baby’s nursing corner looks all cute and ready (Thanks to Feeka for the wall deco from the shower! Hehe).
With that, I think we are ready to welcome our Baby anytime! Insya Allah.. :D

Week 37 - review

Just few more weeks left!!! *mixed feelings*
Alhamdulillah, my recent Doctor’s review didn’t make me wait for a long time. I had my ultrasound first. I managed to be the second one to enter the room. The kind technician kindly printed for me Baby’s scan as Husband was not there to take the video. Alhamdulillah everything is fine except ONE!
After that was my Doctor’s review. She asked me about fetal movement, alhamdulillah sometimes I managed to get 10 movement within an hour or two, although the chart they gave me was to track the movement for 12 hours. She also checked my feet and hands for swelling but so far, it’s not that bad (although I believe they are not my normal size. Hehe)
_____________________________________________________
Back to the ONE thing that became my huge concern since that day. Baby’s position. It is not breech but Occiput Posterior (OP) aka ‘sunny side up’ Baby.

pic credit: spinningbabies.com
From my research and reading, most of the time Baby will turn himself to the right position when in labour but of course, it will take quite a long time (or may be not the case).
The technician, and mom (and her friends) told me that it’s going to be a long and painful labour for me. Truth to be told, that scares me as I’m expecting to have a short and painful labour. Dugaan ya Allah!
… *speechless* I am really hoping and praying that Baby will turn to the right position before labour to ease my labour pain. I know that I have not experience any backaches yet (really grateful for the smooth sailing journey so far) and I don’t think I want to experience them.
Been talking to Baby too and I believe that’ll helps. Insya Allah.. Tolong doakan Dear Readers! Thank you so much.. =’)

Breastfeeding Class

Last Saturday, Husband and I attended the Breastfeeding class conducted at the Gyne clinic in RIPAS. We learned a lot from the class, apart from my side reading from breastfeeding mommies group in Facebook which is very helpful too.

pamphlets in the goody bag
According to the article, to enable mothers to establish and sustain exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months (highly recommended), WHO and UNICEF recommend:
  • Initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of life
  • Exclusive breastfeeding – without additional food, formula milk and water
  • Breastfeeding on demand – as often as Baby wants
  • Do not use bottles, teats or pacifiers
What I can conclude from the talk is to always think positive and happy thoughtswhile breastfeeding your Baby to encourage your milk supply other than the spending the precious time with your Baby. Mudah-mudahan diberikan rezeki yang banyak to breastfeed my Baby nanti. Amin ya Rabbal ‘Alamin!
Benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, for Baby:
  • better mental development
  • protect against ear infections
  • better mouth formation
  • reduce risk of asthma
  • less eczema
  • reduce risk of obesity
  • reduce risk of childhood diabetes
  • protect against gastro-intestinal infections
  • protect against urine infections
  • less smelly nappies
Another important note I’d like to share with everyone. TIPSDO NOT buy feeding bottles. Hehe.. Lucky I bought them in a set. I’m not hoping that I’ll be using them since feeding bottles and teats are not recommendable.
Overall, what you actually need to have a successful breastfeeding (this comes from a pregnant lady who has not experience breastfeeding and did a lot of research and reading)
  • to invest in an excellent breastpump (preferably Medela freestyle or swing – both function the same but FS can use double pump)
  • storage bags for expressed breastmilk (EBM)
  • freezer – to keep your EBM stocks
  • bottle warmer – to thaw frozen EBM at the right temperature
  • few bottles – need to use them to warm EBM afterall
  • Medela’s feeding cup!!! (I’ll take the pic once I got them)
  • A LOT of positive thoughts and support :D

How to Cloth Diaper a Newborn

How to Cloth Diaper a Newborn

We are in the midst of learning on how to use the traditional lampin (flats diapers). How to fold them correctly, how to increase its absorbency and to do a little bit of “modernisation” to the lampin using diaper covers. ;)
Iman and I initially have decided on using just the disposable diapers during the first couple of months and then to slowly change to cloth diapers. However, both my parents have another plan, that is to use the traditional lampin while I am still in my confinement period. Dang! Mom said, it’s very HOT during the day and you don’t want Baby to get diaper rash, do you? *give up arguing! hehe*
Instead of continuing my (excessive) reading on different brand of cloth diapers and their reviews, I have been looking for information on using flat diapers. Again, Cloth Diaper Malaysia doesn’t fail me to give such a valuable information. Thank you Farhana! :D  Here are the links that I have been reading,
From my recent reading, I know that Autumnz is not suitable for a newborn. On a brighter side, I can use their inserts to increase the absorbency in flat diapers. Yay!!! Since I only have 4 MFI, I guess we still have to wash it everyday. I have 4 Flips stay dry inserts coming though. I wonder if it will works. Will definitely try them.
I have also bought a diaper cover from YippeeHouse Tan. Only one though, Baby Beehind (BBH) newborn nappy cover in Metropolitan (which I love the pattern so much!) and it cost $13.90 only. Next month, they will be reviewing their prices though. :( Considering that we will only be using flat diapers during the day, we will definitely need to wash the cover every night and lucky it is in PUL so it dries quicker even under the fan.
The more I read, truthfully speaking, I become more keen on cloth diapering our Baby full-time. We definitely in a huge savings advantage from buying disposable diapers every month (keep in mind, the price changes as the size change, but they definitely wear them less when they become a toddler or have started potty training).
We just can’t wait to experience all these new things when Baby arrives :D Insya Allah ♥

Week 36 - review

Yesterday I had my first weekly appointment. The usual routine – urine test for the sugar, blood pressure (a bit high but still normal) and weight (same as last week).
Finally after waiting for more than 2 hrs, they called out my name. It was short and brief. The nurse checked Baby’s heartbeat :D and gave second dose of the anti-tetanus jab (that hurts! huhu). The Doctor told me to get another ultrasound next week to check on my placenta. At first, I didn’t know that I was suppose to get my placenta check, it was when I made my booking at the ultrasound receptionist who told me.
So when I told mama about it, she was shocked (and I think a bit mad and worried too) that I need to get another ultrasound. She said, they have checked your placenta last time when they did the ultrasound. Why do they asked you to do it again? It’s not good for the Baby. Do you know the risks involved when doing the ultrasound? and it goes on and on.. and I was just sitting there in the car …… *speechless*
Okay so we are in my 36 weeks and I have been reading about the Perineal massage. Thanks to my best friend who managed to help me get Mothercare’s perineal gel in the UK. The thing is, they do not sell it here. Today I received an email from Mummysreviews and she mentioned about the Perineal massage too. I have read the how in WhatToExpect but I have not done it diligently yet. Can checkhere too for the guide on how to do it.
First I read about the perineal massage was here, then here and here. Credit to Diah for the valuable information. Been researching about it since then. You know, to prevent tear and episiotomy. I’m actually scared about this especially when I found out that the tear and stitch will sort of limit our capabilities after we gave birth and not to forget the pain that comes along with it. Yes, I have fear with everything that involves needle, pain and blood. Ya Allah, please give me strength. Amin…
Next is to get my hospital bag (have not start yet) and Baby box ready (almost there!). We’re having a Doa Selamat and Baby Shower this Saturday with our friends :D Can’t waittttt!!!

My Autumnz Stash

Being a newbie in modern cloth diapering, this is one of the few brands I came across among cloth diapering moms here. If you want to try pocket diapers and on a budget like us, Autumnz is actually not bad choice to begin with. :D
my first CD stash
I am looking forward to add few more in my collection after trying these eye candies to our Baby. There are other pocket diapers brand like bum genius, fuzzi bunz, happy heinys and etc. Since I will probably using them for night time diapering, might as well spend less on the diaper cover and invest more on the inserts.
Although AI2 cloth diapers are a tad bit more expensive, same principle applies as we will need less cloth diaper cover and more of the inserts during the day. I hope I will be able to keep this in mind, or else, there goes my attempt in saving money although I will probably be contributing more by saving the mother earth. Lol!
When you buy Autumnz CD,
  • you will get FREE 2 super-absorbent 3 layers of microfibre insert (or MFI, for short)
  • it comes in 3 sizes (small, medium, large) all in ONE diaper by adjusting the front snap buttons, also known as one size (OS) CD
Features
  • One size from birth to potty training
  • Tested to fit babies/toddlers from 3 kg - 18 kg
  • Soft inner microfleece lining, to keep baby dry and rash free
  • Waterproof PUL outer to prevent leak
  • Easy to use hook and loop fasteners
  • 3 x 3 snap design to give a snug fit
  • Easy to clean and quick drying
Washing Instructions :
Before using the diaper set:
  • Wash the diaper and insert several times before use to increase their absorbency
Washing soiled diaper set:
  • Knock solids into toilet
  • Remove the insert from the diaper
  • Rinse and put in the diaper pail. No soaking is necessary
  • Fasten the hook and loop tabs to the laundry tab on the inside of the diaper
  • Wash your diaper up to 60 degree celcius in normal wash cycle with no more than 1/4 to 1/2 of the detergent’s recommended amount per load
Some DO NOTs to remember:
  • Do not use fabric softener as it decreases the absorbency
  • Do not use bleach or other harsh stain remover. Drying diaper in the sun is the most effective way to remove stains
  • Do not use nappy cream as it reduced absorbency
Note: The instructions can also be found on the packaging which is a plus point.
Autumnz Insert dimension – 38 x 13 cm - longer than other standard inserts, making it more superior in terms of absorbency
My opinion: I prefer it longer as you can fold at the front (for front wetter/ baby boy) to increase its absorbency.
For more information, you can check Autumnz site [here].

More on CDs

I am so happy to finally received our first modern cloth diapers – bought 2 Autumnz CD from Rizqy Husnee early this month. Been showing them to my parents – my dad was really curious how to use and wash them while mom on the other hand. Lol!
Lately, I have been reading (again) on cloth diapers . I’m currently stacking up these cloth diapers so we can try them on our Baby when the time comes. Mom and dad told us to use the traditional lampin too while I am in my confinement period. I am going to buy BBH nappy cover too for the lampin.
After my further reading on cloth diaper – by keeping in mind this may change due to our Baby’s preference – this is what
I am
we are planning to do. Hehe..
Seems like from my reading, pocket diapers are suitable for night diapering although the best one would be fitted diapers. Pocket diapers because we can stuff more inserts in it to our heart’s desire. Well, as long as the combination is right, it will make the usage last a little longer. Hence, more investment needed for extra inserts or boosters (including hemp and bamboo perhaps).
While during the day, I think AI2 would be best. Reasons being the cover s reusable and we can just change the inserts every 2-3 hours (at least two cover changes during the day). Furthermore, when we go back to my in-laws during the weekend, this would be very perfect. It is a plus point for travelling or when we’re out and about.
What I can say about Autumnz - appearance based – is I love how soft the fleece is especially to baby’s bum. Although I think by putting 2 inserts makes the CD looks bulky and I’m not too sure if Baby will feel comfortable with that. From what I read, hemp is very good as booster – it absorbs a lot but at slower pace and much thinner too. Next in my CD shopping list is the Loopy Do inserts.
I am still waiting for my Flip CDs from BabyMeshop. Should arrive by the end of this month. Next I would like to try Bamboolite. I am so glad that they have starter pack so I can try their sizing as I read some people have problem with the sizing which lead to leakage.
Actually.. I’m just really excited to explore these CDs!!! Hehehe ;)

Week 35 - review

Today I had my Doctor’s review. At first it was every 4 weeks, then they shortened to every 3 weeks and starting today, I have to come every week. I guess that is how it’s suppose to be seeing that I have 5 weeks left! *nervous*
The nurse also told me to do the fetal movement count. I have 10 kicks today by 1pm. Alhamdulillah.. Baby is very active and healthy. :D There’s nothing else we want more than a healthy baby. Insya Allah..
I have gained about 1kg for the last 3 weeks. Not much but suffice! My blood count is a little low (10.4), mom got worried and told me to eat more of red meat. The Doctor’s said it is actually okay just need to increase a tad bit more.
As they say, it could be any time now and unfortunately we have not pack our hospital bags. We have bought everything though – just need to wash and pack them all. Mom reluctantly allowing me to pack the bags hence the procrastination. People also told me not to be so active now and Mom told me otherwise. Haha confusing much!
At the end of the day, I know people love and care about me. Thank you so much!!! I love you all.. wait, WE love you all! ♥

Anti Stretch Marks Lotion

Iman has left for Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, the Philippines today. He will be back at midnight next Saturday. *sad* But it’s okay, I have a list of things-to-do while he’s away. We’ll definitely gna miss you, Daddy! :D
————————————————————————
Okay, back to the title. Since my early pregnancy, I have been using Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Oil (aloe vera with Vit E) at least once a day to prevent the stretch marks. When my tummy itches, I usually apply baby oil to relieve the itchiness and it works like magic!
However, lately I find that I’m having dry skin and the itchiness become worse! Huhu.. Iman told me to get a proper anti stretch marks lotion and I saw Palmer’s at Guardian. But oh my.. it’s so pricey! So when we were looking for baby binder at Hua Ho Manggis, we found Pureen anti stretch marks lotion with reasonable price and bought it.
Description:
Pureen Stretch Mark Lotion with TRIPLE ACTION FORMULA, contains Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Almond oil, Rose Hip Seed Oil, Collagen, Elastin and Vitamin E to relieve itchiness due to skin dryness, strengthen skin and enhance its elasticity.
Features:
TRIPLE ACTION FORMULA that contains: -
  • Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Almond Oil and Rose Hip Seed Oil to moisturize skin and relieve itchiness due to dryness of the skin.
  • Collagen and Elastin to strengthen skin and enhance its elasticity.
  • Vitamin E to give antioxidant protection.
You can check [here] for further information.
I have just started using this lotion for couple of days. So far after applying twice a day, I don’t see the dry skin and it does not itch anymore. Alhamdulillah.. Yay!!! :D
